Liverpool on verge of joining elite group in English Premier League history

Liverpool are on the verge of joining an unbeaten elite group in the history of the Premier League if they can avoid defeat in their next match.

The Reds have been phenomenal this season and demonstrated that once again last time out when they floored defending champions Manchester City 3-1 at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp's men will become the only fifth team to go 30 matches unbeaten if they avoid defeat in their next match against Crystal Palace.

Liverpool are 29 league matches without defeat, a run going back to 3 January 2019, when they were beaten by Manchester City.

What are the other sides that have achieved this?

Man City

30 matches (8 Apr 2017-2 Jan 2018)

Manchester City under Pep Guardiola romped to the title in 2017/18 season. The win included a 30-match streak that started with a 3-1 home win against Hull City, and they went on to amass 82 points from 30 matches.

There run was halted by Liverpool in a thriller, 4-3 loss at Anfield.

Arsenal

30 matches (23 Dec 2001-6 Oct 2002)

Arsenal embarked on this amazing run with a win over 10-man Liverpool just before Christmas and went all the way to lifting the 2001/02 title, sealed with Sylvain Wiltord's goal that claimed victory at Manchester United.

Arsenal won 25 matches and drew five before a then 16-year-old Wayne Rooney served them defeat with a late goal for Everton to end the run.

Chelsea

40 matches (23 Oct 2004-29 Oct 2005)

The Blues, under the then Portugues manager Jose Mourinho, went on their second-longest unbeaten run as they secured back-to-back titles with a defence that conceded only 19 times in just over a year.

Manchester United's Darren Fletcher sealed victory for the Red Devils, bringing an end to their run.

Arsenal

49 matches (7 May 2003-16 Oct 2004)

The Invincibles is the tag Arsene Wenger's men got after going a whole season unbeaten in their title-winning campaign shortly after leaving Highbury.

Just like Chelsea, Arsene Wenger's team were downed by Alex Furguson's Manchester United at Old Trafford, with Wayne Rooney the tormentor-in-chief.

Sadly, Wenger was denied a half-century.
