Revealed: How Arsenal tried keeping Serge Gnabry

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed the club tried to extend Serge Gnabry’s contract ‘for a very long time’.

Gnabry, who currently plays for Bayern Munich was on form during a Champions League match against Tottenham where he netted four goals as his side beat Tottenham 7-2. This led to Arsenal fans being upset why the club sold the Germany international to Werder Bremen in 2016 before signing for Munich in the summer of 2017.

And Wenger in an interview with beIN SPORTS has revealed the Gunners tried to extend Gnabry/s contract for a very long time while also opening up about the player's loan to West Brom including how his confidence was destroyed.

"We tried to extend his contract for a very long time and I think that Bayern manipulated behind the scenes, that if he went to Bremen he would join Bayern after," he said.

"He was always a very talented boy who lacked confidence in some stages, but we always thought we had a player who could achieve a lot."

"He came back from a very bad experience at West Brom where his confidence was destroyed. I tried to rebuild him because I believed in him."

Since signing for the Bundesliga machines, Gnabry has featured 51 times, netting 18 goals while providing 13 assists in the process.
