πŸ“ Arsenal 3-2 Aston Villa: How we rated the Gunners players

Arsenal won a pulsating five-goal thriller at Emirates Stadium to squeeze back into the top four and there were performances at both ends of the spectrum from their players.

How did we rate the individuals in Unai Emery's side?

🇩🇪 Bernd Leno 6.5

Not at fault for any of the goals and made a couple of decisive punches, catches and saves.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Ainsley Maitland-Niles 3

Should have known better than to tackle recklessly when already on a yellow, and sustained an injury in the process. Suspended for Arsenal's League Cup tie with Nottingham Forest.

🇬🇷 Sokratis 4

Battled to contain Wesley all match and didn't look assured when bringing the ball out of defence

🇧🇷 David Luiz 3

His distribution was excellent, as usual, but was at fault for both goals, especially Wesley's second where he just switched off

🇧🇦 Sead Kolašinac 6

Didn't offer much in attack, which is usually his strength from left full-back, but worked really hard for the team and got stronger as the contest progressed

🇨🇭 Granit Xhaka 3

Picked up a needless booking for a tug on a Villa player's jersey and offered little aside from cross-field diagonals. His lack of mobility was horribly exposed when Villa countered to score their second

🇫🇷 Matteo Guendouzi 7.5

Probably Arsenal's man of the match, driving the team forward and winning the penalty that got them back into the game. Always proactive, and recovered well from a poor start where he was culpable for Villa's opener. Doesn't play like he's only 20 years old

🇨🇮 Nicolas Pépé 7.5

Showed some neat touches and smart decision-making from the right side of attack, and got his first goal for the club by slotting down the middle from the penalty spot. There's much more to come from Arsenal's talented Ivorian star

🇪🇸 Dani Ceballos 6

Some slick touches here and there but he wasn't able to impose himself on the match and was outmuscled by Villa duo McGinn and Grealish

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Bukayo Saka 6.5

Unfortunate to be substituted at halftime after a good showing in the first period. The 18-year-old, Arsenal's third-youngest starter in a Premier League match, fired just over with a ferocious drive and showed menace and dribbling ability. His time in an Arsenal jersey will come

🇬🇦 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 7

Not the Gabonese hitman's best game by a long stretch, but again he scored the winner and now has 16 goals in his last 16 matches across all competitions

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Joe Willock 7

Replaced Ceballos and added urgency to an Arsenal midfield desperately needing it. The 20-year-old deserves a run of starts soon

🇺🇾 Lucas Torreira 7

The Uruguayan's new box-to-box role seems to suit him, he almost scored just moments after coming on after combining with Willock

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Calum Chambers 7

Looked steady at right-back, got forward well and scored a lovely close-range goal to bring Arsenal level at 2-2

👔 BONUS RATING

Unai Emery gets a 7 purely because of how well all three of his substitutes performed.
