After being criticized by Jose Mourinho following the 4-0 loss at the hands of Manchester United, Mason Mount, and Tammy Abraham have been defended by their captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
Mourinho singled out Mount and Abraham for criticism and suggested Lampard should have started a side containing more experienced players. The former Manchester United manager also said that N’Golo Kante should have started the game and questioned the decision to leave Willian out of the squad.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the UEFA Super Cup clash against Liverpool, Azpilicueta defended Mount and Abraham, "If they are here it is because they deserve to be. They are fighting in every training session. We trust in them.
"All the boys, they train to play for the Chelsea first team since they were young and now we have a massive opportunity to create a fantastic group, to learn from every game. Obviously, everyone would like to start in a better way but we have to face the reality and become stronger from it."
