Algeria 5-0 Zambia: Desert Foxes humiliate Copper Bullets in Blida

Zambia's road to Cameroon 2021 AFCON started off on a frustrating note as they suffered a 5-0 humiliation at the hands of the Africa Champions, Algeria away in Blida.

Algeria came into the match as the favorites having never lost in Blida in 35 games and were on a 17 game unbeaten run.

The hosts started strong and controlled the proceedings from early on but the could not find a way past Zambia until late in the half when Ramy Bensebaini headed home a corner to put the Desert Foxes in the lead a minute to half time.

Algeria came back from the break with a lot of purpose. The desert foxes were gifted a chance to double the lead 20 minutes into the second half after a careless tackle from captain Kabaso Chongo resulted in a penalty, Baghdad Bouendjah stepped up and converted from the spot to make it 2-0.

It was 3-0 six minutes later, Youcef Belaili getting his name on the score sheet to put more daylight between the two sides. El Arbi Hillel Soudani made it 4-0 five minutes to time before Baghdad Bouendjah could complete the 5-0 bashing with his second of the match.

In the end, a well deserved 5-0 win for Algeria and a disappointing start to the campaign for Zambia who is desperate to make it to Cameroon after missing out on the last two editions.

Zambia will next host Zimbabwe at the National Heroes Stadium on Tuesday while the Desert Foxes travel to Botswana to face the Zebras.
