U23 AFCON: Early arrival in Egypt excites Chambeshi

Zambia U23 national team head coach Beston Chambeshi has expressed happiness with the early arrival in Egypt ahead of the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations that commences on Friday.

Chambeshi believes the early arrival will help the players to acclimatize to the weather in Egypt before their first game on Saturday.

“The early arrival is good for the team especially for the foreign players if they can come early so that we can have ample time to see their level of fitness and combination in the team,” he said.

“It will also help to acclimatize with the weather which is good for the boys.”

The Team arrived in Cairo on Friday evening and were given a courtesy call by Zambia Ambassador to Egypt Toply Lubaya who reminded the players who Zambia's status on the continent.

“This is a very important tournament that you have come for. We have no doubt that you came for a purpose. At the end of the day, Zambia is well known as a footballing nation, very well known. It has gone in records. Remember the team we lost, within a short time we built another team and in 2012 we became champions,” he said

“I am so excited that with your arrival, the recent AFCON in Egypt for the seniors, people were asking, where is Zambia? I said we did not qualify, I said we gave a chance to other countries but you wait we shall show you our true colors. I am pretty sure at the end of the day we have what it takes to show them what Zambia is," he added.

Zambia will open its AFCON campaign on Saturday with a clash against South Africa before facing defending Champions, Nigeria three days later with the final group match on November 15 against Ivory Coast.

The top three teams at the tournament will qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
