England forward Jadon Sancho has helped build a new state of the art pitch in London as a way of giving back to the community.
Teaming up with Nike, the Borussia Dortmund player said that he owed his footballing career to Kennington (the place he grew up) and hoped that the pitch will empower the upcoming footballers in the area.
"Growing up in Kennington has made me the man I am today. I owe a lot to South London for nurturing the way I play," Sancho told Versus. "I hope the local kids feel empowered to tell their own stories through football and follow in my footsteps - this pitch being just the ignition point."
Raised in London
Sancho, 19, was born and raised in the London suburb of Kennington before making the move to Manchester City academy.
The brand new facility plays home to local club Lambeth Tigers, a club and organization founded by David Marriott and Jamahl Jarrett which is committed to helping kids in South London access football.
The pitch will be used year-round by kids from the age of six to 18, and help more than 300 young players nurture their footballing talents through coaching, workshops and training.
