England halted Kosovo's two-year unbeaten run with a 5-3 thumping in the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers with Jadon Sancho registering a brace in a pulsating match at St. Mary's Stadium.
The game was off to a flier as Kosovo grabbed the lead seconds after kick-off, capitalizing on a calamitous pass by Michael Keane at the back as Muriqi slipped a simple ball down the inside left for Berisha, who opened his body and sidefooted powerfully past Pickford and into the bottom left corner.
England pulled level 10 minutes later when Ross Barkley hit a long corner. Keane rose high above Rrahmani, heading deliberately back across goal, where Sterling was able to expertly guide a header past on-loan Manchester City goalkeeper, Muric from six yards out.
The turn around was complete in the 19th minute when Sterling made a lung-bursting run from the center of the pitch to set up Kane with the ball on his left as he entered the box, took a touch to get rid of Vojvoda, and slammed a low shot between Muric’s legs and into the net.
Kosovo were unlucky to concede a third when Jadon Sancho's low cross was turned on to the back of his own net by Mërgim Vojvoda in the 38th minute.
Gareth Southgate's men were devastating on the counter and scored another in the 44th minute when Sterling slipped the ball right to Sancho, who scored his first goal for England by taking a touch before sliding it past Muric in the fuss-free style.
England had time for another goal before half time when Chilwell clipped a pass down the left for Sterling, who knocked it past Rrahmani and moved into space. He made it all the way to the left-hand edge of the six-yard box, then carefully dinked a cross over the outstretched Muric towards Sancho, who buried the ball home.
Kosovo got their second in the 48th minute when Rice cheaply conceded possession with Muriqi making a darting run to deliver a pinpoint cross that found Berisha who took a touch to get past Henderson and fired the ball past Jordan Pickford in goal.
Harry Maguire gave away a penalty after bringing down Muriqi, the Fenerbahçe forward stepped up to take his own penalty and slotted the ball into the top right, Pickford got a good hand to it but unfortunately not a strong one as Kosovo got their third of the game.
England were handed a penalty of their own when Barkley was hacked down by Rrahmani who was booked for the foul. Kane stepped up to take the penalty but could hold his nerve as Muric kept his spot-kick out despite replays showing that he was off his line before the penalty was taken.
England next take on the Czech Republic and Bulgaria on 11th and 14th October while Kosovo takes on Gibraltar in a friendly and Montenegro in a Euro qualifier.
