Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has blocked the possibility of Rangers signing winger Ryan Kent.
The 22-year-old spent last season in Rangers and went on to win the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award, prompting Gerrard to want the player for another season on loan.
But Klopp wants to keep Kent as a back up for his top three forward, and would try out the player in Liverpool pre-season before taking a final decision.
Gerrard has been open about wanting to improve his squad ahead of the new Premiership season, and hinted that more incoming deals are imminent.
“It will be a permanent deal for a defender,” the ex-England skipper said of his next deal Wednesday.
"There is still a way to go but we have had some progress in the last couple of days.
“If things progress as they have in the last 48 hours, I’m hoping something will get done by the end of the week.”
Rangers beat St. Joseph’s in their first-round Europa League qualifier this week, with the second leg clash taking place at Ibrox next Thursday, as they look to reach another Europa League group stage.
