Emphatic Zesco United thrash Zanaco to win 2019 ABSA Cup
Zesco United thrashed Sensational Zanaco 4-1 on Saturday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to clinch the 2019 ABSA Cup.
Zesco came into the match looking to win their sixth title in the competition while Zanaco were hoping to make it two trophies following their maiden title in 2017.
Zesco started strong and settled quickly. Jesse Jackson Were broke the deadlock in the 12th minute after being set up by Lazarus Kambole to put Zesco United in the lead. Zanaco were handed a big blow five minutes later as they were reduced to ten men after Kelvin Kapumbu was shown a straight red card following a foul on Jesse Jackson Were.
Coach Numba Mumamba was forced to make a substitution bring on Boyd Musonda for Christone Jere. Winston Kalengo doubled the Ndola giants lead in the 29th minute. The match went to the break with Zesco United leading 2-0.
Zanaco came back from the break more organized and pulled a goal back after 15 minutes, Ernest Mbewe with a beautiful strike. It seemed like it was a lifeline for the bankers but two minutes later John Ching'andu restored Zesco's lead tapping in from close range after a beautiful combination between Lazarus Kambole and Jesse Jackson Were.
Lazarus Kambole who was playing his last game at home scored a beautiful strike 14 minutes to conclude what was an emphatic performance from the record winners of the competition.
