Lionel Messi has urged his teammates to collect themselves and move on from their disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of Colombia in the Copa America opener on Saturday night.
Messi and company went down in a shocking manner, after a disappointing display at the Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador, Brazil.
The captain, however, believes they can turn things around and qualify from the group if only they can pick lessons from the defeat.
“There are positives to come out of this, we are ready to accept the challenge that we have,” Messi said after the game.
“There is no time to complain, we have to look ahead, we have to raise our heads and continue, there’s still a lot of the tournament left,"
“They kept the ball well but didn’t create clear opportunities, but when we took a step forward in the second half they scored a goal. When we were playing at our best, they scored a great goal and it cost us,"
The two sides played out a drab first half before the match sprung into life in the second half, but it was Colombia who were left celebrating at the end.
Messi and company will have a second chance to redeem themselves when they take on Paraguay, knowing that only a win can put them back in contention of progressing.
