Cristiano Ronaldo reacts to question about winning the sixth Ballon d'Or
After winning the UEFA Nations League with Portugal, many have tipped Cristiano Ronaldo to bag his sixth Ballon d'Or but the Juventus forward is not thinking about the gong.
Portugal won the inaugural competition on Sunday night as Ronaldo lifted the trophy after a 1-0 win over Holland following Goncalo Guedes's second-half strike. The Juventus superstar scored a hat-trick in the semi-final success over Switzerland but found the tough going in the final up against Liverpool stalwart Virgil van Dijk. After winning the Champions League with the Reds van Dijk is also a strong contender for the gong.
Ronaldo has bagged the individual prize five times and was asked if he was on course for a sixth, "The goal for the match was to win and to play well." Pushed for an answer by reporters after the win over Holland, he responded: "No, I will not speak about the Ballon d’Or.”
The Juventus forward, however, failed to win the Nations League Player of the Tournament as his teammate Bernardo Silva went home with the prize.
