Who is Vinicius Junior? 🇧🇷

On 23 May 2017, when Vinicius was still 16, Real Madrid became made their interest in the player concrete by tabling an offer of approximately €46m to sign the teenager. The contract that was signed would only become effective on July 12 2018 (his 18th birthday) but the outlay of that sort of money was a clear indication as to his potential.

Vinicius enjoyed a productive 2018/2019 season, providing a memorable assist for Karim Benzema away to Ajax Amsterdam in the Europa League group stages, after a typical jinking run. The return leg against Ajax went poorly for both Madrid and Vinicius on a personal level, he was badly injured in their 4-1 home defeat.

Still, he returned to action ahead of schedule and although he was omitted from Brazil's squad for Copa America, there's high hope that he will go to the top of the game.

Playing style & strengths 🏃🏿‍♂️

Vinicius is a typical Brazilian in the best old traditions of footballers from that part of the world. He's a direct, pacy winger with explosive acceleration, flair, balance and technical ability. He kept Isco out of the Real Madrid side last season for long periods and that's no mean feat.

Weaknesses 🤨

Vinicius will need to add more end product to his game if he wants to be remembered as a great, but the raw ingredients are there for all to see. He's known for his brilliant. mesmeric dribbling but he'll need to improve his crossing from wide areas if he is too boost his assists numbers. As to be expected from a young wide player, his diligence when it comes to his defensive contribution isn't quite where it needs to be. If he gets deployed more centrally, that may become less of an issue.

We will definitely be following Vinicius' Brazilian compatriots at Copa America next month and then his own personal journey at Real Madrid next season and beyond.
