Mourinho's message to Martial after 'disappointing' season
Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes Anthony Martial has immense potential and has urged him to ensure he puts it into maximum use.
The Frenchman started the season in imperious form and scored in five consecutive games for United under Mourinho before the coach was shown the door.
His form dipped as the year turned and under a new manager in Ole Gunnar Solkjaer, eventually losing his place in the starting line-up.
"I just wanted to help the player – an incredibly talented player – change his mindset, help him reach his maximum. To become a killer, a determined striker. I really enjoyed working with Karim," he said as quoted by Metro Sport.
"He [Martial] is a boy with a different personality. The thing I can say is that I hope he will reach a level that is as good as his real potential," he added.
Martial's stay at Old Trafford is in question, with rumours indicating that the winger has fallen out with his manager, one more reason for his absence from the team.
Solkjaer has in the past mentioned Martial as one of the players who need to change their attitude, leading to rumours that he might be leaving Manchester.
Martial joined Manchester in September 2015 for a fee in the region of £36m from Monaco and was dubbed the next Thierry Henry.
