Unai Emery delivers his verdict on Herrera's off side assist
Arsenal manager Unai Emery is eager for the implementation of Video Assistance Referee (VAR) after Ander Herrera assisted Anthony Martial from an offside position to hand Manchester United the equalizer in the first half.
Marcos Rojo stepped up to take a free kick which was palmed on to the path of Ander Herrera who looked to have been slightly offside but went on to set up Anthony Martial for the equalizer in the 30th minute after Shkodran Mustafi had opened the scoring for Arsenal. English Premier League clubs voted for the implementation of VAR starting from the 2019-2020 season.
Emery admitted that it was a tight call but noted that VAR will assist referees to eliminate errors, “I know VAR is coming, when it’s coming it can equalize something like these difficult decisions for the referee.
“I know maybe he was offside, but it was very difficult because the action happened very quickly. Sometimes it is for us, sometimes it’s for the opposition
“I think the referee's decision is not important today for the result. If one team deserved to win, we did more.”
