Henry to poach Arsenal coach as he nears Monaco move
With reports indicating Thierry Henry will take over at Monaco in the next 48 hours, the Belgian assistant coach has been rumoured to be eyeing Arsenal’s U18 coach Kwame Ampadu.
Ampadu worked with Henry during the Frenchman’s reign as the club’s youth coach and now Henry wants him to be part of his technical bench staff. Ampadu played for the Republic of Ireland and appeared only three times for Gunners senior team.
Meanwhile, Roberto Martinez has tipped his current assistant to be a great coach. Although the former Everton manager failed whether Henry is on his way to Monaco, he said that they are prepared for his departure anytime.
"Thierry Henry's leaving? You must be better informed than me. I can't confirm this news but we all know he will leave us one day. Whether it's Saturday, a week or six months away, we are prepared for it. Thierry has brought all his experience and when he leaves, he will have all our support. Thierry has the potential to become a great coach, which he will certainly quickly become,” Martinez said.
Henry led Belgium against Switzerland in a UEFA Nations League where they won 2-1 with Romelu Lukaku getting a brace.
Monaco sacked Leonardo Jardim after a string of poor performances in Ligue 1.
