CAF CL: Esperance thump Township Rollers to claim top spot, KCCA drop to second
Tunisian giants Esperance took control of group A in the CAF Champions League with a convincing 4-1 win over Township Rollers at the Olympic stadium in Rades.
Esperance controlled much of the first half but could put only one into the net in the 26th minute. Algerian striker Mohammed Belaili pounced on a poorly cleared header inside the box controlled it and blasted a low one past Motlhabankwe Masule.
Boy Segolame pulled level for the visitors in the last minute of the half with a stunning freekick that took a slight deflection off the yellow and red wall.
The Tunisians were not ready for a disappointment in front of their home fans. They burst into the second period with a quick goal inside the first minute. Maher Magri got at the end of some quick interchange before laying up Anice Badri to stub in the second.
Rollers Keeper Masule tried his best to maintain the scopres with several saves but the Tunisians finally unlocked his codes in the 78th through Magri. The striker completed his brace later in the game to seal an emphatic win and send the Tunisians at the helm of the table with four points.
The huge loss means that Township rolls down to third behind KCCA FC due to an inferior goal difference.
