Pep Guardiola has hailed midfielder David Silva for his outstanding performance in their recent 2-0 victory over Stoke.

Speaking at a press conference following the match, the Manchester City boss said, “he goals, I am happy for David today, he has scored a lot of goals this season and the minutes he played. He controlled the tempo perfectly. Normally people talk about his skills and technical ability and after that he cannot be an aggressive competitor. And he has both.”

The Spaniard continued, “There are no doubts about his skills, but after that, in the bad moments he is always there, he controlled the game, the tempo and to help us have more control. And I think the mix, with especially David, and Ilkay Gundogan, they are more aggressive and attacking with more runs in behind, and that also helps us a lot to control the games."

Silva continues to be one of the driving forces behind City’s success, having scored eight goals and assisted another nine in 24 league appearances this season. The 32-year-old and fellow midfielder Kevin De Bruyne are jointly responsible for most of the creativity on their awe-inspiring offense, which has proven to be unstoppable and a constant nightmare to their peers.

A step closer

The midfield maestro’s double against the the Potters not only secured the three points for the league leaders, but also edges the champions-elect closer to their season-long goal of winning the coveted Premier League title.

City now need only win three more matches to bag the trophy since they have maintained the impressive 16-point gap between themselves and their competition, and appear to be on course to completing their dream campaign on an emphatic note.
