Kasumba not hurt by Uganda miss

After a fine run in 2017, it was widely expected that Sofapaka forward Umaru Kasumba would be considered for the Uganda national team, but call ups for the first assignment of 2018 were made and Kasumba’s name was not in it.

Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre named Emma Okwi, Yunus Sentamu, Edrisa Lubega, Hood Kaweesa as his forwards for the game, overlooking the striker who scored 13 goals in the Kenyan Premier League last season.

Kasumba’s coach at Sofapaka, Sam Ssimbwa says the snub did not affect the player because he took it as a professional but is committed to work hard and get the chance in future.

Hard Work

“Kasumba is true professional, and he values hard work. He is not hurt by not being called up and having worked with him, I know he is looking forward to getting the chance and wants to work hard for it.

“He took it as a professional and committed player, so I can confirm he wasn’t hurt,” Ssimbwa said.

The Uganda national team is set to play Malawi in a friendly match in the coming FIFA international break.
