Paul Merson believes that Celtic chief Brendan Rodgers is the perfect man to succeed Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

Speaking at a recent interview, the Gunners legend said, “I don’t know why he (Rodgers) doesn’t get the Arsenal job? He fits Arsenal great. The nearest Liverpool have ever come to winning the league for a long, long time is when Brendan Rodgers was in charge.”

The pundit continued, “He’s done nothing wrong at Celtic. But I think he now needs a change and needs to come back down (to England). I’ll be shocked if he didn’t get a good job. I’d be quite shocked if he didn’t get the Arsenal job.”

Many agree that Rodgers would be the best option to take over from Wenger at the Emirates. The Irishman has firmly established his current side as the premier Scottish team, winning their league’s top honours in all the seasons since the tactician took over in 2016.

The tactician has gone on record to say that he is committed to The Bhoys for the foreseeable future but could be tempted into taking his trade back to England if the right club comes knocking.

Rodgers, however, has to contend with the likes of former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique, ex-Bayern chief Carlo Ancelotti and Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri for the coveted post.
