Kawalya handed full powers to save sinking Mbarara City
Mbarara City has handed Sam Kawalya a permanent deal to handle the team as one of the actions to save the club from relegation.
Kawalya was in charge of the team when they lost 2-1 to Maroons at home last week. He was handed the role as a caretaker after the sacking of Ibrahim Kirya.
The club announced that he will be taking over for the remaining of the season as the head coach.
“Mbarara City Fc have today (Monday) confirmed the appointment of Sam Kawalya as their new head coach on a one year contract. The 37 year old retired goalkeeper will replace Ibrahim Kirya who was sacked sevn days ago due poor performance of the team.Kawalya expects to lead the western side's fight for survival as the Azam Uganda Premier League nears its climax,” the club announced.
Mbarara lie 12th on the 16-team table with only 21 points, two above the relegation line after 20 games.
The coach has about ten days to plan for the next game which is a Uganda Cup round of 16 tie against Kansai Plascon on Thursday 22nd March.
