Matic: Sevilla clash most important in the season
Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic is of the opinion that the Champions League second leg tie with Sevilla will serve as their most important game this season.
United are currently in a rich vein of form, unbeaten in five matches, with wins over Chelsea and Liverpool, and host Sevilla after a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Spain, before their FA Cup quarter-final with Brighton on Saturday next.
"[It is] very important for our confidence to win this sort of game," the midfielder said after the 2-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford. "We won against Chelsea and of course today, so confidence will be on a high level, for sure. We have to see what we did well to continue like this, we have to know where we made mistakes to improve. The next game is very important for us, maybe the most important game of the season. We have to beat Sevilla to go through, so we give our best."
Hails Scott McTominay
Matic hailed 21-year-old Scott McTominay, who started alongside Matic in a 4-5-1 formation, their fifth game in a row selected alongside each other.
"Scott is fantastic," Matic said. "It is a joy to play next to him. He fights for the team, he runs a lot. He plays like he already played five or six years in the Premier League, but he's still young. He's fantastic. He was one of the best players on the pitch so I am happy that we have him in the team, and he needs to continue in this way."
Manchester United face La Liga side Sevilla in their Champions League last-16 second-leg on Tuesday 13 March and then host Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday 17 March.
