Ayiekoh explains decision to bench star players against on form UPDF
Kirinya Jinja SS head coach decided to bench his preferred first-choice keeper Emmanuel Rubankene in the team’s Matchday 20 fixture against UPDF FC.
The coach released his lineup on Thursday after the training, more than 24 hours before the clash.
The coach acknowledged that Rubankene is in fine form but reiterated the need to rotate his squad and give chance to other players.
“It’s not about form: he has been very good and consistent but I need to give all my players a chance to play because I believe they’re all good. That’s why they’re in my team in the first place,” he said.
The coach also decided to relegate team captain George Kasonko and Bashir Mutanda to the bench with Joel Madodndo and Anthony Mayanja taking their slots. He says that the two played well in their 1-0 win over Onduparaka but after assessment, he realized they were not fit enough.
“They played well but I saw that they lacked some match fitness. My target now is to use those who are fully fit as I prepare the two for future assignments because we are entering the toughest bend of the league.”
The team plays UPDF on Friday at Bugembe. The soldiers have not lost a match in the second round.
