Jinja Municipal Hippos have claimed their maiden season win after overcoming Kataka FC in Jinja on Thursday.

The Jinja side are among the favorites to earn promotion at the end of the season but their exhibition was far from convincing.

The visitors have themselves to blame for not capitalising on their few chances to come back into the game.

Gerald Hamya struck the first goal in the 18th minute but failed easier goals to convert later in the game.

Blaize Nkolo, on-loan from BUL FC, captured Lukungu's long ball, ran down the right lane and swung a low cross into a crowded box. Musa Magumba brushed it with his left knee in an attempt to tap in. The other three defenders in black also failed to clear off before falling on Hamya's path.

The Mbale side pressed their hosts in a bid to equalise before the break but Dinho Okot and Eyamu blasted their near chances over. Hamya came close at the death of the first stanza when he clipped on Lukungu's long pass with his left, settled and fired his shot to the stands with only keeper to beat.

The striker's worst miss, and perhaps the miss of the day, came deep in the second half. Jalendo made some good work in the left and curled a long one behind the visitors backline for Hamya, Musa Magumba and Farouk (Magumba).

The two Magumba's appeared to be off and didn't make a move. Hamya comfortably controlled, advanced to tge box in a one-on-one situation but instead of chipping into the empty goal, he opted to round up the keeper who stretched and slightly pushed the ball off the intended course.

In other matches played, Nyamityobora, Kamuli Park FC and Agape collected wins.
