BREAKING: Tanzania's Mbwana Samatta on verge of Aston Villa move

English Premier League side Aston Villa are closing in on Genk and Tanzanian striker Mbwana Samatta.

Reports indicate the two sides have had productive negotiations, with Villa said to have agreed to pay £8.5m for the 27-year-old's services.

Samatta will become the first Tanzanian to play in the Premier League if the deal materializes, with the Villains hoping he will be granted a work permit.

Dean Smith is eager to bolster his attacking unit, following Wesley's knee injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the season, rendering them a man short upfront.

Samatta ticks all boxes for Villa, having starred for Genk last season where he was the Belgian League's top scorer with 32 goals, as well as becoming the first East African to win the Soulier d’Ébène award for the best African player in the Belgian Pro League.

His versatility and ability to play in an attack-minded role can be key for Smith's side, which has lacked a cutting edge on many occasions.

He joined Genk in 2016 from TP Mazembe, and his form in Belgium has led to increased interest from other top clubs, including Premier League teams West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Brighton.

Samatta has already scored 10 goals for Genk this season.
