Former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina is reportedly on the verge of completing a loan deal to Aston Villa from AC Milan according to Daily Star reports.
Reina who was in the stands in Villa's massive shock 6-1 defeat by Manchester City is set to complete negotiation talks after he completes his medical.
Thereafter, manager Dean Smith is expected to make a decision on whether he will start Reina in Villa's next three fixtures that will define their position in the Premier League.
According to the report, Villa are wanting to sign Reina as he brings plentiful experience which will come in handy for the Villa Park outfit.
The Spain international made 285 appearances during his nine-year spell at Liverpool and was capped 36 times by his native country.
"We'll debrief the game, we'll learn from it and move forward. We were poor against Watford but learned from it and put in a good performance against Burnley," Smith said after their defeat to City.
"What we can learn from is the way they pass and move, the way they work as a team and press. It's something for myself and the players to aspire to.
"We made mistakes and got punished by a better team."
Smith also explained the reason why he handed Danny Drinkwater his debut after he completed his loan move from Chelsea - he was previously on loan at Burnley.
"Danny needed it, he got 75 minutes of match time. We have injuries as everyone knows, he has come in and looked good in training. He wasn't the reason we got beaten 6-1," he concluded.
