Player Profile: A look at AC Milan’s Krzysztof Piatek

Amid interest from Premier League sides Aston Villa and West Ham, Futaa looks at Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek, who might just be on his way out of Italy because of his recent dip in form and the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to AC Milan.

With four goals in eighteen games for the Rossoneri, it has been a bad start for Piatek. So bad, that manager Stefano Pioli had to go get 38 years old Ibrahimovic!

How good is he?...

His recent form should not make us forget just how good the 24-year old is.

Piatek took the Serie A by storm, scoring 13 goals in 19 appearances, second only to Cristiano Ronaldo. He then moved from Genoa to AC Milan last year, for a reported €30m, but it just hasn’t quite worked out for the Polish international.

Style of play

He can be compared to his idol, Filippo "Pippo" Inzaghi.

He does not really strike you as a danger, but if you give him a small chance, small space, he will punish you.

Manchester United fans can liken him to Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez.

Piatek is extremely clinical in or outside the danger box. He might not yet be at Robert Lewandowski’s level of clinical, but, he can definitely get there. (Well, they are international teammates, he might learn a thing or two!)

According to Squawka, Piatek has only had 7 clear cut chances in all of last season for Genoa but has scored 13 goals. A quite incredible stat once you think about it.

This means even when not statistically favored to finish the chance, Piatek can still find a way to get onto the scoresheet.

Conclusion

Was he a one-season wonder?

Piatek has shown glimpses that he can do it all – pass, score, hold-up play, press the opposition effectively – he is almost Lewandowski-esque in the way he plays the role of No.9.

With the figures being touted, the Premier League club that cops him will certainly expect a lot of the 24-year old Pole.

Only time will tell if he can handle the pressure!
