Lee O'Connor set to be first Celtic player to be capped by Ireland in five years

Lee O'Connor is set to become the first Celtic player to be internationally capped by the Republic of Ireland in five years when he steps up for his native against New Zealand on Thursday evening.

The Irish Mirror revealed that manager Mick McCarthy is working on giving the youth players a chance to showcase what they have got when they meet with the All Whites.

O'Connor who previously played for Manchester United has not made his league debut for Celtic but at this rate, it seems like he will be making his international debut first.

The 19-year-old will be their first player to feature for Ireland while contracted to the Scottish Premiership since Anthony Stokes in 2014.

The current Celtic squad player Jonny Hayes was capped in a game back in June 2017 but that was believed to be two weeks before he was officially signed by the club.
