England manager Gareth Southgate has been impressed by Callum Hudson-Odoi's recovery following a long injury lay-off.
The youngster ruptured his Achilles in an English Premier League match against Burnley in April that ended his season, and it's been only a few weeks since his return.
He has, however, put in reassuring performances for Frank Lampard's side, and it only got better for him when he received a call-up to the national team preparing for the Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Speaking after announcing the Three Lions side, Southgate lauded the Chelsea medical team for their work with the 19-year-old.
“We were surprised at how quickly he was back,” said Southgate. “That would be a credit to his dedication and motivation and also everybody at Chelsea for the way they’ve managed that injury.
“So, he’s still on his way back. I think [with] any of those long-term injuries, you take a little while to hit your very best and of course, he’s a young player so he’s still learning and improving, but already in the games, he has played, we can see his level,"
“He’s pushing. He’s pushing those other wide players that I talked about to start in the team,"
England will play Kosovo and Montenegro in their two qualifiers this month, hoping to book a place in next year's competition.
Hudson-Odoi joins other Chelsea stars in Ross Barkley, Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount in the England squad.
