Injury update: Everton's Gomes could play again this season

Everton manager Marco Silva has revealed midfielder Andre Gomes could play again before the current season concludes following successful surgery on his broken ankle.

Gomes suffered a fracture-dislocation on his right ankle following a challenge from Son Heung-min during Everton's 1-1 draw with Tottenham. Ahead of weekend's Premier League encounter with Southampton, Silva suggested the England international could be ready to play before the end of the season in mid-May.

"It's not easy for us to give a sure date about when he will return," he said.

"What's in our mind and the feedback I have from our medical staff is that it's possible we will see Andre playing again this season. Of course, it's not something we are 100 percent sure about, but we have good possibilities to do that."

"He is strong, he will keep strong for sure and will become stronger as a player."

Son, whose red card was rescinded on appeal, addressed the incident after their Champions League match against FK Crvena Zvezda, saying he was "really sorry" for what happened.
