Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has revealed to Birmingham Mail that new signing Zimbabwe international Marvelous Nakamba has been deemed unfit to start his 2019/20 campaign.
Villa were active in the summer transfer market where they brought in 12 new players, however, Nakamba is yet to make an appearance for the first team.
The former Club Brugge midfielder was left out of the Villans first two season-openers and Smith told Birmingham Mail that the Zimbabwean has a lot of work to do in order to ensure that he is fit and strong.
"He's done extra work in training on Saturday and he's still a little bit off it," Smith said.
"He played one game in the Africa Cup of Nations and got injured and hasn't done an awful lot of training afterward so when he came to us we've been working on his fitness.”
There will be stiff competition when Nakamba joins the team and will have to battle it out with Douglas Luiz, Jack Grealish, and John McGinn; with the latter of the two having already secured their spots.
Villa have struggled to pick up any points since the start of their campaign - they will be looking for better luck when they take on Everton next.
