Harambee Stars defender leaves AFC Leopards

AFC Leopards have parted ways with Harambee Stars defender Yusuf Mainge according to the player who has thanked the club for the years he was with them.

Mainge joined Leopards at the start of the 2018 season straight from Kakamega High School when the team was under coach Robert Matano but failed to pin down a spot at the club.

"I want to thank AFC Leopards for the opportunity they gave me. They believed in me straight from school and it has been a good learning experience. Thank the coaches who I worked with, the officials and the players I played with because they played a huge role in my development.

"I thought it was the right time to move. I cant talk about what the future holds now. I will talk about it at the right time," Mainge told Futaa.

He has sparingly been used despite being a constant figure in the national junior teams; the player having captained Kenya U20 side and being part of the Kenya U23 team that was eliminated from the 2020 Olympic qualifiers by Sudan.

CHAN

The player has been summoned by Harambee Stars head coach Sebastien Migne in the 2020 CHAN squad has been called to camp to prepare for their clash against neighbors Tanzania.

Robert Matano is said to be angling to lure the player at Tusker with the right-back having attracted interest from Kariobangi Sharks too.

Apart from the local sides, the defender is rumored to be angling a move to an unnamed side out of the country.

The news comes days after Leopards confirmed that they had parted ways with Aziz Okaka, Wayi Yeka, Eric Ndayishimiye, Ivan Sekazza, Marcel Kaheza, Paul Were, David Ochieng and Shami Kibwana.
