Taribo West offers advice to Super Eagles defence line

Former Nigeria defender Taribo West has offered words of guidance to Super Eagles defence ahead of AFCON 2019.

West, who played 42 games for Nigeria including three AFCON appearances, says the most important thing in the last line of defenders will be communication.

“A lot of talking must be done between the defense line and the goalkeeper, that’s one thing I believe should be done during the matches….that is my advice to them, there needs to be a lot of understanding,” West told Brila.

“Its a young team, and they are just also working together so you should not also forget that in football, it takes time to build a strong team”.

The now 45-year-old who’s played for both AC and Inter Milan added that there is only so much that the coach can say and the rest falls on the players on the pitch.

“In as much as the coach is also working on them, and they are also playing together, in the fullness of time, they would be able to understand themselves and also bring about a solid communication that would make them to also excel properly, not just in the defense or goalkeeping area, but other aspects and areas of the team,” concluded West.
