Eden Hazard reveals why he turned down a move to Real Madrid last year

After a long transfer saga, Eden Hazard finally completed his switch to Real Madrid as he revealed that he turned down a move to the Spanish giants last year for a final season at Chelsea.

Real had announced they had agreed on a deal to sign the playmaker from Chelsea last week after a protracted pursuit. The Belgian underwent his medical at Madrid’s La Moraleja University Hospital on Thursday, with the 28-year-old then officially signing his five-year contract before participating in his unveiling and subsequent press conference.

Speaking in a press conference after his unveiling, Hazard revealed why he turned down Madrid last year, "There was contact after the World Cup but I stayed at Chelsea for another season. I think it was a good decision, we won the Europa League, it was a good campaign personally, and I just think it was the right time to join Real Madrid.

"To be honest I was fully focused on Chelsea and their season. I know it's been a season of highs and lows because of the success the club enjoyed the past five years, but that's normal. I'm sure the hunger now is even greater."
