With Harambee Stars head coach Sebastien Migne naming his 30-man provisional squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations in Egypt, Futaa looks at the profiles of the players that will represent Kenya in the continental showpiece.
Faruk Shikhalo (Goalkeeper)
Current Club: Bandari FC-Kenya
2017: Posta Rangers FC
2015-2017: Muhoroni Youth
2014: Tusker FC
2013: FC Talanta
Patrick Matasi’s main rival is still in the spring of his career. Having failed to command a place in the Tusker FC team, Shikhalo ventured into the world of the unknown to make a nitch for himself with the little known Muhoroni Youth.
The FC Talanta product made a name for himself around the holy hills of Alila and when he helped the team win the KPL Top 8 trophy against giants Gor Mahia, it was only a matter of time until he got suitors. He was to move to Posta Rangers but things didn’t turn out as he expected only to find himself at Bandari who were looking to replace legend Wilson Obungu.
Backed by a proper defence, he won the golden glove last season and hasn’t conceded that much either this season under Bernard Mwalala. Consistency has been key for the stopper since joining Bandari despite the change of coaches and will head for his first major tournament hoping he can do the business when called upon.
