Real Madrid started their defence of Champions League title on a positive note after registering a 3-0 win over APOEL Nicosia as a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo and a Ramos' bicycle kick ensured the Los Blancos top Group H.

The defending Champions didn’t start as many expected as they were easily giving away the ball to the visitors but still managed to score in the first 15 minutes. The usual suspect Cristiano Ronaldo on his return, put the Los Blancos ahead in the 12th minute. It was a perfect move from the middle with Isco passing the ball to Bale who squared it to Ronaldo whose right footed shot from the right side of the six yard box kissed the back of the net.

Three minutes later, the Portuguese international almost grabbed his second of the night after receiving a fine cross from Bale but he headed the ball on the side net.

In the 25th minute, Mateo Kovacic was stretched off after picking an injury and his place was taken by Toni Kroos.

In the second half, Madrid picked from where they left and their pressing game almost paid off as Cristiano Ronaldo hit the post in 47th minute. A minute later the home team was awarded a penalty after Roberto Lago handled the ball in the penalty area from Bale’s cross and Ronaldo converted the penalty.

Ramos made it 3-0 in the 61st minute, Bale headed a cross to the defender who scored with his right foot from very close range to the bottom right corner.  With five minutes remaining, Cristiano Ronaldo was denied a hat trick as Modric’s through ball caught him offside.
