Dream Start: Arsenal To Maintain Form Against Stoke

18 Aug 2017, 17:15

Wenger’s men, Arsenal travel to the Bet365 stadium to take on Stoke City on Saturday evening hoping to keep their 100 per cent Premier League record this season.

The Gunners kicked off their 2017-18 campaign with a 4-3 comeback win against Leicester, with Olivier Giroud coming off the bench to head home a later winner after Alexandre Lacazette debut goal. The north London side have not  had an easy ride every time they visit Stoke City but Mark Hughes' squad looks a little light this season, and lost their opening game 1-0 to West Brom.

Mark Hughes’ side signed Jese Rodriguez on loan from PSG this week and the former Real Madrid winger is likely to feature at some point on Saturday

The Gunners will be without Alexis Sanchez, after Wenger confirmed that he will be unavailable for selection as he recovers from an abdominal injury. Defenders Per Mertesacker and Shkodran Mustafi are both expected to make returns to the first team squad this weekend, while Laurent Koscielny will serve the final match of his three game ban.

Facts Zone

- The home side have lost just once in their last seven home games against the Gunners (W3 D3 L1), although it came last time out in May, losing 1-4.

- Arsenal will be looking to win their opening two games to a Premier League season for the first time since 2009-10.

- Olivier Giroud’s winner against Leicester in the opening game was his 99th goal for Arsenal – he’s looking to become the 19th player to score a century of goals for the Gunners.

- Peter Crouch, who has netted more Premier League goals versus Arsenal than any other side (9), has scored in his last two appearances against them at the Bet365 Stadium.

- Alexandre Lacazette could become the first Arsenal player to score in both of his opening two Premier League appearances for the club, should he net in this fixture.

With the way Arsenal produced a good performance in the league opener against Leicester, coming from behind to beat the Foxes 4-3, Stoke City will be unable to stop the Arsenal strike force. The Potters didn't do well at Everton and they don't frighten  anymore. They are not like the old Stoke teams, which used to trouble teams. The Gunners should get all the three points on Saturday.
