Jose Mourinho had a 24 man senior squad to choose from, with the only players unavailable the long term injured trio Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo. Shaw and Young are back in training but this game has come too soon for them in the recovery from injuries sustained at the end of last season.

Chelsea and Liverpool have already shown United the potential for slipping up on opening weekend and Mourinho will want to ensure that his team take maximum points from the first fixture as he plots a title challenge.

United XI: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Bailly, Blind, Matic, Pogba, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Rashford, Lukaku.

Subs: Romero, Darmian, Smalling, Fellaini, Herrera, Lingard, Martial

West Ham XI :Hart; Zabaleta, Ogbonna, Reid, Masuaku; Obiang, Noble, Fernandes; Ayew, Arnautovic, Chicharito.
