Ugandan midfielder elevated to player coach in USA

Ugandan winger Ian Sendi has been given a five and a half year deal to take over FC Minneapolis as their first ever player manager.

Sendi joined Minneapolis in 2013 and has been a key figure in the squad earning the nickname “Wing Wizard”.

-Sendi brings with him invaluable expertise and know-how, with 10 years’ experience in high-level football. A number of strong candidates were shortlisted by the club, but Sendi’s hunger, desire, and passion to succeed at FC Minneapolis, coupled with his experience, were key highlighting qualities in the decision process and the club believes they have the man to take FC Minneapolis forward and improve the club’s position, the club stated.

The 26-year old has previously managed the City Lions at the Gordy Aarmoth Stadium in six games; winning three, drawing one and losing two.


Sendi was part of the team that won the American Premier League in 2015. He takes over from Varney Cole.
