Kenyan defender Brian Mandela was dismissed late in the second half as Maritzburg United suffered a 3-1 defeat to Polokwane City in the Absa premiership match played on Wednesday 3 February.

Having scored in the teams previous two, the burly defender and his team kicked off positively as Maritzburg shot to the lead in the league tie only for the defender to get his marching orders for a deliberate handball offence in the box with their host missing from the resultant penalty.

Deonil Mekoa 40th minute strike handed Team Of choice the first edge but Polokwane came after resumption more intent and responded with two in a space of five minutes.

Onyango’s dismissal left Ernst Middendorp side to chase the game a man less in the last twenty minutes instead they conceded the third late on through Sipho Jembula goal.

The hosts moved to position nine on the Absa Premiership standings, while the Team of Choice remained at the bottom of the table.
