Marwa heads to Zurich
The reigning Tusker Premier League (TPL) assistant referee of the year Mr. Aden Marwa left the country on Thursday 25 October for Zurich Switzerland where he will be attending a training course for match officials expected to take charge in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The assistant referee will be in Switzerland for the next two weeks for the orientation courses alongside 100 other officials from all over the world.
The final choice of referees who take part in the FIFA World Cup is also made basing on the performance of the individual officials at their local federations.
If Marwa succeeds, he will be only the second from East Africa to ever officiate in a FIFA World Cup after Uganda’s Ali Tomusange who was in charge as an assistant referee in the 2002 showpiece in South Korea and Japan, most notably in the controversial match pitting Spain and Italy.
