๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ด Africaโ€™s World Cup 2022 Qualifiers day one: Somalia make history

East African minnows Somalia earned their first-ever World Cup qualifier victory after defeating Zimbabwe.

As explained here on Futaa on Monday, the first stage of the qualification phase involves CAF’s 28 lowest-ranked teams nations that compete in 14 home & away leg ties.

Somalia, known as the Ocean Stars, grabbed a 1-0 win over the Warriors in a game that was played in the neutral venue of Djibouti due to the political unrest in Somalia.

Somalia’s historic goal came from the head of Anwar Sidali Shakunda. The same region also saw a special win for Djibouti as they claimed a 2-1 win over eSwatini (formerly Swaziland).

As far as the all-important and empowering away wins go, no less than five nations grabbed wins on the road.

Sudan proved too powerful after defeating Chad their north-central derby. Rwanda, still brimming from making their first-ever AFCON appearance in Egypt earlier this year, hammered Seychelles at their home Stade Linité stadium in Victoria.

The likes of Namibia, Mozambique, and Guinea Bissau are also bouncing after traveling to places like Sao Tome, Mauritius and Eritrea to earn vital wins.
