Juan Mata reveals why he didn't leave United this summer

Manchester United attacker Juan Mata is keen on helping the club regain its 'lost glory', and it is one fo the reasons he never left this summer.

Mata was early in the summer linked with a move away from the club but penned a new deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2021 with an option to extend for a further year.

In his weekly blog that is normally published on the club's website, the former Chelsea man further indicated that they have time to turn things around, after a disappointing defeat to Crystal Palace last time out.

United were beaten 2-1 at home by a resilient Palace to extinguish high hopes to the season that had been set by their opening week's 4-0 win over Chelsea

"Defeats are a part of football, although we feel like this one arrived too soon," he wrote, before adding; "Fortunately, we have the rest of the season to fix our mistakes and improve,"

The 31-year-old further highlighted the team's goals for the season, noting that he wants to be part of the team that takes it back to the top.

"...given the situation, it perhaps would have been easier to leave, to accept that I did not arrive at Manchester United at the best point in their history, and not renew,"

"However, I believed, and still believe, that it was worthwhile to stay, to work so that this club returns to fighting for big trophies,"

United will next travel to St. Mary's to face Southampton knowing that a win is what will get them back on track before the international week.
