Frenkie de Jong is set to become a central figure for club and country in the next decade.
Here's a closer look at the Dutch midfielder who will turn out for Barcelona this season.
Player bio 📊

- Position: Central midfielder
- Estimated transfer value: €85m
What's De Jong's story so far?
De Jong came through the Willem II youth team where he made two appearances before a transfer to Jong Ajax to learn his trade in the fabled Ajax youth academy.
He has long been touted as a future Dutch great and is already a senior figure in the Netherlands setup at the tender age of 22. He was an integral cog of their side that reached the UEFA Nations League final this year.
In July 2019, he completed a much-anticipated €75m move to Spanish giants Barcelona where there are high hopes for the gifted midfield schemer.
Playing style & strengths 🥊
Versatility is one of De Jong's biggest strengths. He can play as a central, attacking and defensive midfielder and can adapt to numerous formations and tactical approaches.
His pass and move style should be perfectly suited to Barcelona's infamous tika-taka system that they've employed for most of this decade. His silky close control and precision with his short passing game have drawn comparisons to Barca legend Andres Iniesta. He should be a perfect complement to Brazilian Arthur at the base of Barcelona's midfield.
De Jong also has the ability to turn away from danger and break defensive lines to get his head up to thread dangerous through-balls to attackers.

De Jong has no significant weaknesses as a player. He might want to add a few more goals and assists to his game after only directly contributing to six goals in last season's Eredivisie campaign. If he can grow this aspect of his game, he'll be a highly influential operator at the highest level for many years to come.
