Raila congratulate Harambee Stars despite Algeria loss

Former Kenyan Prime Minister Rt Hon. Raila Odinga has congratulated Harambee Stars despite their opening 2019 AFCON loss at the hands of Algeria.

Addressing the team after the game, Raila hailed the Sebastien Migne side for their efforts and believes that they still stand a chance of making it to the next round of the showpiece.

“I want to congratulate you for putting in a good fight especially in the second half, despite not having got the result we all anticipated.

“It is not always about winning, but putting in a personal best effort. We still have a chance to right the wrongs in our match against Tanzania and I’m confident that we can do it,” Raila is quoted by FKF’s website.

Kenya who was making an appearance in the continental showpiece for the first time in 15 years was undone by a penalty from Baghdad Bounedjah and a goal from Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez.

The result came despite Stars giving in a spirited display in the second half; a performance they hope to replicate when they take on Tanzania on June 27.

Stars then wrap up their group games with a tie against Senegal on the first day of July.
