Fernando Torres has named Steven Gerrard as the best player he played with during his glittering career spanning over 18 years.
The mercurial striker announced that he will retire from active football next month, bringing an end to a career that took him from Spain to England, Italy and back to Spain again.
The former Chelsea striker reflected on his career, and particularly during his three and half years at Liverpool, where he had arguably the best time in his career.
"I always say the best player I played with is Steven Gerrard. I found he was the player who completed my game. I think my level got into a different dimension when I was on the pitch with him," he told reporters.
"It was an amazing three-and-a-half years playing alongside Steven and I would love to go back to those days - even for one minute," he added.
Torres played alongside the English during the period, scoring 81 goals in 142 games but could not help the side to the Premier League title as they finished second in 2008/09.
Torres switched from Liverpool to Chelsea in 2011 but failed to replicate the form that put in on the world map as one of the deadliest strikers of the game at the time.
He retires having won numerous titles including the Champions League, Europa League, and the World Cup.
