Six top players who've played for both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid have agreed to sign midfielder Marcos Llorente from Real Madrid, in one of the few business deals between the two Spanish rivals.

Llorente, 24, joined Madrid at the age of 14 years and has grown through the ranks, even though he has never broken into the senior team fully.

His move across town is just one of the few in the history of the two clubs, with their rivalry dating back to the early 1900s.

We take a look at some of the star players that have turned out for the two clubs in recent years.

1. Thibaut Courtois

The current number one keeper at Madrid has played for the two clubs. The Belgian made his name during the three seasons he played at Atletico on loan from Chelsea, and he won the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, the Europa League and reached the Champions League in 2014. He went back to Chelsea, before joining Real Madrid in 2018.

2. Raul

Real Madrid's legend was in the books of Atletico Madrid, before eventually joining their town rivals when Atletico needed to raise more funds. Raul turned out to be one of the best strikers in the world, and won six La Liga titles, three Champions League trophies as well as becoming the club's all-time top goalscorer before Cristiano Ronaldo happened.

 3. Alvaro Morata

Alvaro Morata's journey has been a long one, but he seems to have found a home at Atleti. He started his footballing career at Real before he was loaned out to Juventus, where he shone for the Italian giants. He could not nail down a spot at Madrid and was sold to Chelsea, before finding his way back to Spain, and this time, with the former champions.

4. Santiago Solari

Another legend at the Santiago Bernabeu. Solari joined Real Madrid from Atletico in 2000 after the latter were relegated in 1999. He enjoyed immeasurable success with Real, winning the Champions League and a host of other titles.

5. Theo Hernandez

Hernandez ditched Diego Simeone's side without playing a single match, joined Real Madrid and won the Champions League in his first season, making 23 appearances. He was however loaned out in his second season.
