With Harambee Stars, head coach Sebastien Migne naming his squad for the upcoming 2019 African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt, Futaa looks at the profiles of the players who will represent Kenya in the continental showpiece.
Victor Mugubi Wanyama
DOB: June 25, 1991
Current Club: Tottenham Hotspur, England
Previous Clubs: Southampton (England), Celtic (Scotland), Beerschot AC (Belgium), Helsingborg U21 (Sweden), AFC Leopards (Kenya), Nairobi City Stars (Kenya)
Harambee Stars main man in terms of stature. The Tottenham man has worn the armband since the Adel Amrouche days but still divides opinion like few others. Excelled in the qualifying home game against Ethiopia and provides energy and quality from the midfield of the park, but is always liable to drift to the peripheries of games.
Wanyama has struggled with injuries this season with his club and even missed Stars crucial clash against Ghana at home, a clash that is believed to have earned midfielder Dennis Odhiambo his place in the team after stepping up for the kissing captain.
Despite his setbacks, his presence and leadership qualities in the team will be important in a stage like AFCON where so many players look up to him as an inspiration. He further arrives on the continental stage on a back of UEFA Champions League final.
