Newcastle working on possible loan deal for Stephy Mavididi

12 Jun 2019, 12:05

Newcastle United are reportedly in desperate need for strikers in the summer transfer window with reports in TEAMtalk claiming that the side has expressed interest in a loan deal for Juventus' Stephy Mavididi.

The 21-year-old was handed his senior debut in April 2019 after putting on impressive displays for the Juventus U23 side.

However, if Newcastle are to secure a deal for the youngster, they will have to battle it out against a number of rivals, with eight other English clubs said to be keen on his services.

Everton, Southampton, Burnley, and Premier League newcomers Aston Villa are the other top-flight sides mentioned. While Championship quartet Leeds, Derby County, Fulham, and Middlesbrough are credited with an interest.

Newcastle’s options up front are severely limited at the current time, with Salomon Rondon returning to West Brom, and Joselu thought to be on the verge of a switch to Spain, we are left with just Dwight Gayle as a senior out and out striker – and he is likely to depart before the season starts.

A loan for Mavididi could work out for all parties

A move for a raw talent like Mavididi could turn out to be a good move for everyone concerned.

The player could develop – hopefully – under the guidance of a world-class coach like Rafa Benitez, which would benefit him, and allow him to improve by gaining invaluable first-team experience at the top level.

Juventus would be sending out a prospect with a lot to learn, and getting back a player with experience and nous of senior competitive football.
