Feyenoord prepared to take Janmaat off Watford's hands

Dutch side Feyenoord are in contention to test Watford's resolve in keeping hold of defender Daryl Janmaat.

Janmaat is currently in the final year of his contract at Vicarage Road and there is no news in signing an extension.

Nevertheless, this has caught the attention of his former club, Feyenoord, who are reportedly willing to take him back where he spent two seasons from 2012 to 2014.

According to The Evening Standard, the Eredivisie side believes Janmaat could easily be persuaded to change his mind about leaving Watford as he is not guaranteed a starting lineup under manager Javi Garcia.

The 29-year-old had to fight for a spot with Kiko Femenia to make the starting XI last season, but the Spaniard started the majority of the big games - including the FA Cup semi-final and final.

As a result, Feyenoord are ready to test Watford’s resolve to keep Janmaat this summer by making an approach for him.

The defender is understood to be potentially open to the move that he will guarantee him game time, but he is aware the Dutch side needs to raise funds before they can make an offer.

Feyenoord finished third in the Eredivisie last season, behind Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, meaning they would be able to offer Janmaat the chance to play Europa League football.
